A pedestrian hit by a car and the driver of the vehicle that hit him were both hospitalized Wednesday in serious condition.

Dayne Howell, 25, 3564 S. 4240 West, had just gotten out of a parked van in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven, 695 W. 53rd South, when he saw a car approaching out of control and tried to run out of the way. But the car hit the van, which in turn struck Howell about 9 a.m. Tuesday.Darlene Leafty, 33, 6080 S. 40th West, had been driving east on 53rd South when she apparently lost control of her car, which jumped the curb, and was injured when her car hit the van in the convenience store parking lot, according to a police report.

Both Howell and Leafty were taken to Cottonwood Hospital.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated by Murray police, who said no citations had been issued as of Wednesday.
