Both the defense and offense looked good at times for the University of Utah football team as the Utes closed out their final full week of spring drills with a Friday afternoon scrimmage in Rice Stadium.
Ute Coach Jim Fassel said he was "pleased with parts of the scrimmage and other parts I wasn't quite as happy about." On offense Fassel was happy with the goal line play of his offense."I was really happy with the way the offense was able to move the ball into the end zone in the goal line situations," said Fassel.
Fassel also had praise for the Ute defense and its play in other parts of the scrimmage. "I thought the defense came back well after the goal line section to really shut down the offense. They (the defense) were driving to the ball well and were getting a much better pass rush. They really got fired up the second part of the scrimmage and I was happy with their enthusiasm."
Quarterback Scott Mitchell and running back Clifton Smith looked good on offense while Eric Jacobsen lit the fire on defense.
"Right now I would say we are about where I wanted to be at this point in the spring." said Fassel.
The Utes close out spring drills with the annual Red-White intrasquad scrimmage Thursday afternoon in Rice Stadium.
