Olympic chief Juan Antonio Samaranch Thursday forecast a successful Seoul Olympics following the comparative calm of the recent South Korean elections.

"We are very happy at the results. Not only the ruling party, but also the opposition is ready to support the Olympic Games in September," Samaranch told a press conference after a two-day meeting of the International Olympic Committee executive board."We are not worried. Although the political parties are different they are all Korean and all Korean people are interested in the success of the Games and what it represents to the country.

"It may be a turning point for the Republic of Korea like it was for Japan in 1964 for the Tokyo Olympics."
