A man police said was carrying a concealed handgun and a pipe bomb while in the Valley Fair Mall was being held without bond in the Salt Lake County Jail Monday.

Mall security officers detained the man Saturday about 8 p.m. after a mall customer told them he saw a man who had a gun in the restroom. It wasn't until after West Valley officers searched the man's coat pockets that they found a pipe bomb filled with black powder, according to a police report.Officers also confiscated a loaded .38-caliber semiautomatic handgun they said the man had concealed under his coat. A search of the arrested man's car turned up a Chinese-made .30-caliber assault rifle, blasting cap wire and a number of rounds for both the rifle and the handgun, the report said.
