Officials of Idaho's new state lottery are ready to begin building a statewide retail network.

Lottery director Wallace Hedrick has issued a statement encouraging established businesses that would like to become lottery retailers to write to the Idaho State Lottery office in Boise."We'll respond to these inquiries with a complete application package as soon as we complete the rulemaking process," deputy director Bill Applegate said. "That should be able the middle of April."

Hedrick said the lottery officials were looking for convenience stores, grocers, supermarkets, drug stores, discount stores and others meeting the legal requirements of integrity, reputation, financial responsibility, public accessibility and security.

The law also requires prospective retailers to provide ownership information and agree to financial and criminal background checks.

Retailers will earn a 5 percent commission on sales of lottery tickets.
