Those willing to brave the cold can zoom into Utah Snowmobile Week beginning today with races and other activities planned by 11 of the state's snowmobile clubs.
The Utah State Snowmobile Association Annual Trail Ride is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. this morning at the Red Cloud trail head near Vernal and will continue for 40 miles on the Red Cloud Loop toward Flaming Gorge.There is no charge to participate in the ride, but donations will be sought to pay for the lunch provided. A buffet dinner and entertainment will be available this evening at a cost of $12.
Snowmobilers can register for the Tri-State Snowmobile Drag Championship at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 12 at the Winter Hawk snowmobile play area near Vernal. Entry fees for the race, scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m., range from $15 to $25.
Adult spectators will be charged $2.50 while children can watch the race for $1, or an admission fee of $10 per car can be paid. For more information on the trail ride or the drag race, call Randy Beers in Vernal at 789-5196.
Snowmobile races are also planned for Feb. 18 and 19 at the Heber City Fairgrounds. The cost of watching the races, which begin at 10 a.m., is $5 per person.
