A fisherman from Maine who knew a bargain when he saw one ended up getting a fishing boat valued at $55,000 for just $10 in a government auction.
The government lost $3,000 to $4,000 in storage, advertising, maintenance and towing costs on the deal, said U.S. Marshal Donald W. Wyatt."One man's loss is another man's gain," said the buyer, Mark Lewis of Brunswick, Maine, who once was a member of the crew of the boat.
The auction Thursday of the 65-foot Sandra and Cindy, which was seized by the government after it was used to smuggle hashish, was expected to draw more interest, but Lewis was the only bidder, said Wyatt.
