Dr. Richard Eliot Chamberlin died Monday, March 14, 1994, just short of his 71st birthday, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born March 20, 1923 in Cambridge, Mass., son of Ralph Vary and Edith Simons Chamberlin. He attended East High School in Salt Lake City, the University of Utah, Stanford, MIT and received his PhD in Mathematics from Harvard. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a professor at the University of Utah for forty years.On June 13, 1953 he married Frances Elizabeth Maud in East Millcreek, Utah. They raised six children: Ann (Curt) Setzer, Salt Lake City; Dr. Ralph (Ute) Chamberlin, Ariz.; Dr. Fran Chamberlin, Salt Lake City; Martha (John) Sechrest, Oregon; Dr. Alice (Keith) Quigley, Ogden; Helen Chamberlin, Calif. He was devoted and generous to his seven grandchildren.

He is survived by his sisters: Frances Arey (Jack) Frost, Taylorsville; Helen Tangren, Calif.; Shirley Chamberlin, New York; Edith Kearfott, KY; Martha Sue (James) Wolfe, Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 1994, 12 noon, at the East Millcreek First Ward, 2702 East Evergreen Ave. Friends may greet the family at the ward one hour prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the University of Utah Department of Mathematics, SLC, UT 84112.
