A 14-year-old boy said he pulled a gun in his school, threatened a teacher and students and took a 14-year-old girl hostage at gunpoint because nobody takes him seriously, officials said Thursday.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Capt. LaVar Summers said the boy told officers his actions Wednesday at eastern Idaho's Rigby Junior High School were an effort to be taken seriously."His basic statements were that nobody believed he'd do it, so he did," Summers said.

No one was injured and no shots were fired in the incident that began at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The boy appeared at a juvenile hearing late Wednesday and was taken to a regional detention center in St. Anthony, where he will remain until officials decide what to do with him, Summers said.

He faces one count of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault on a police officer. Other charges were pending, officials said.

The Rigby boy, a student at the school, drew a cocked and loaded .22-caliber revolver he brought from home, threatened his teacher and two other students and took the girl hostage, officers said.
