A Salt Lake County woman called the fire department Friday morning after hearing an explosion downstairs from her apartment just after 10 a.m.
The fire she discovered was the second in one year for the tenants who live below her in a duplex at 2732 S. Imperial St. (1685 East). No one but the family dog, killed in the fire, was home when firefighters arrived, said Salt Lake County fire Capt. Gene Warr."I heard this explosion. It shook the whole house," said Peggy McCarron, who lives upstairs.McCarron said she ran out of her apartment and down the stairs to see whether any of the six family members were home. "I banged on the door and nobody answered, so I went back upstairs and called the fire department."
Warr said the fire extensively damaged the downstairs apartment. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, he said.
