Indonesian residents of the island town of Banda Neira were driven from their homes Wednesday by eruption of the Gunung Api volcano, which spewed molten lava for a third straight day, raising temperatures in the nearby town above 150 degrees, authorities said. "The eruptions are even more terrifying than the first one on Monday," Japie Sahetapy, spokesman for the Maluku provincial government, said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "Since early this morning there have been huge explosions and spurts of blazing ash to a height of at least 1,000 meters (1,093 yards)," Sahetapy said.
