The Centerville City Council this week established itself as a redevelopment agency with the power to issue bonds and develop property. The council passed an ordinance establishing the Centerville RDA and named itself the agency's board of directors.

The council heard a proposal last month from attorney William Oswald on what RDAs can do and how to establish one in Centerville.RDAs are used by cities as economic development tools, Oswald said, declaring substandard buildings or blocks of buildings as blighted, issuing bonds for their removal or renovation, and bringing in new, revenue-producing businesses.

The Centerville City Council is concerned about the area between I-15 and Main Street along Parrish Lane, and north and south along Main Street.
