After 13 years, David Dalton is stepping down as music director of the Salt Lake Symphony at the end of the current season.

The orchestra was founded in 1976 as the Salt Lake Repertory Orchestra by Jay Welch. Dalton assumed its directorship in 1981. A nonprofit organization with membership by audition, the orchestra plays seven concerts a year in addition to its annual Vienna Ball at the State Capitol.Applications for music director will be taken through March 25.
