Salt Lake City police were being tight-lipped Wednesday about the death of a man found lying in an intersection by two newspaper carriers at about 4:15 a.m.

Seven hours after the body was discovered, investigating detectives said only that it "appeared that the man lying in the street was the victim of a shooting incident."Newspaper carriers Ben and Susan Anderson were the first to discover the body. "We were driving west on Ninth South delivering paper and I saw a big lump in the middle of the road" at the intersection with 1440 West, said Anderson. "We got up beside it and I saw it was a body."

The couple drove to a nearby convenience store and called the police. Officers had the couple return to the intersection and block it with their vehicle to keep any other cars from hitting the victim.
