A 21-year-old man accused of trying to rob an Arby's restaurant was being held in the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday after he was identified by restaurant employees - one of them his wife.
Workers at the Arby's, 3215 W. 35th South, were closing the business at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when a man wearing a stocking over his head grabbed a 17-year-old girl outside the building, possibly believing she was carrying money in a bank bag.The would-be robber was then attacked by the girl's boyfriend, who was waiting in a car nearby. The friend then dragged the man inside the restaurant and pulled off his mask. Several store employees immediately recognized the man, including one woman who was surprised to discover the masked man was her husband.
The man escaped and was arrested by police soon after at his home.
He was being held Wednesday in lieu of $5,000 bail, according to a jail officer.
