The South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce has a new president - Darro H. Glissmeyer.

He has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce since 1972 and becomes the first full-time executive officer in the chamber's 38-year history. He succeeds Richard M. Taggart of American Funds and Trust, who will be retained as an administrative adviser for the chamber.Glissmeyer worked for Interstate Brick Co. for 33 years, where he said he became familiar with the business district. He served as general sales manager for the company for 11 years.

"It's idea vs. product now," he said, comparing his new position with his old job.

The new president had been the public relations director for the chamber since January 1988 with primary responsibilities in developing new memberships.

"The 95 new members added in 1988 will add greatly to the highly influential group of business leaders who assist in the promotion of their business community in making it a better marketplace," Glissmeyer said.

The city of South Salt Lake currently boasts nearly 2,000 businesses.
