Clarence Knight, president of Clarence Knight Pontiac-Cadillac-GMC, Layton, has received a 1989 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award.

Knight and 66 other dealers received their awards during the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in New Orleans.The award program is sponsored by Time in cooperation with the NADA to honor new car dealers in the United States for "exceptional performance in their dealerships combined with distinguished community service."

Choosing the winners was a panel of judges from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business Administration.

Knight began his automobile career with Browning Chevrolet in Ogden in 1949. IN 1960 he joined Jim Whetton Buick in Ogden and later purchased an interest in the dealership. In 1977, he purchased the former Owen Wright Inc., a Layton dealership, and renamed it Clarence Knight Inc.

His community activities include membership in the Layton and Ogden chambers of commerce and on the advisory board of the State Tax Commission's Motor Vehicle Business Administration Enforcement Division.
