A man who escaped from the Provo City Jail on Jan. 28 after overpowering a jailer faces three more felony charges.
Michael E. Preston, 20, Seattle, was charged in 8th Circuit Court on Friday with escape from official custody and aggravated assault by a prisoner, both second-degree felonies, and possession of cocaine, a third-degree felony.Preston was arrested Jan. 27 in Provo on a King County, Wash., warrant listing three charges of rape. Following his escape from the Provo City Jail, during which a jailer was beaten, Preston fled to the Salt Lake area. He was apprehended by U.S. marshals three days later at an apartment complex in Holladay.
Preston is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on a federal parole-violation charge.
