Rep. Wayne Owens, D-Utah, said Tuesday he will re-introduce his bill to approximately double the size of Canyonlands National Park. He suggested a similar bill two years ago in an effort to put into park status areas being considered as nuclear waste repositories.

He said his current bill would take in the Canyonlands area "from rim to rim" and thus ease the task of the National Park Service in managing the Canyonlands area. The bill would expand the park to approximately 754,000 acres.

Owens said the larger area would be approximately that recommended in 1959 by then-Sen. Frank E. Moss, D-Utah, who sponsored the original bill setting up the park.
