A federal fugitive arrested last Friday in Utah likely will be extradited to Alabama within the next two weeks to face charges stemming from an 11-year-old warrant, the U.S. marshal's office says.

Forrest Edmond Williams, 39, was arrested without incident Friday afternoon in Roy after authorities checked out a tip he was living in the area, said Jerry Smith, supervisor of the U.S. marshal's office in Salt Lake City.Williams also is wanted by Flagstaff, Ariz., police for allegedly escaping from jail more than 11 years ago while awaiting trial on rape and robbery charges.

However, Smith said federal authorities would get the first crack at Williams. The U.S. marshal's office has 10 days to return Williams to Birmingham, Ala., after a federal magistrate orders him removed.

Smith said Williams likely will appear before a magistrate this week for that purpose.

Williams was being held in the Salt Lake County Jail pending further proceedings.
