West Germany plans to write off $383 million owed by Kenya, the Ministry of Development Aid said Tuesday.

A ministry spokesman said shortly before Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi was due in Bonn on an official visit that Chancellor Helmut Kohl would make an official announcement about the debt write-off during bilateral talks starting on Wednesday.The debts being written off consist of $372 million of principle repayments and $11 million of interest, the spokesman said.
