A dean at Utah State University is among the five candidates under consideration for the post of dean at Washington State University's Division of Sciences.

The candidates will start visiting the campus this week, a university spokesman said. A successor is being sought for Robert Nilan, who is retiring as dean.The candidates, chosen from a field of 70 applicants, are: Karen Williams Morse, dean of the USU College of Sciences; Roland Barden, associate vice president for academic affairs at the University of Wyoming; Harry Peck, director of the School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Georgia; William Weber, chairman of the chemistry department at the University of Southern California; and Samuel Kaplan, director of the School of Life Sciences at the University of Illinois.
