Salt Lake officials want to help neighborhood activists learn how to speak "government-ese."

The city's office of Community Affairs and the Salt Lake Association of Community Councils is holding a weekend conference April 29-30, titled "Working Together Taking Charge."City spokeswoman Becky Sanchez said the conference is designed to inform neighborhood residents and train them to become effective participants in resolving community issues.

Brian Wilkinson, a former newspaper reporter and City Council spokesman, and former Councilman Earl Hardwick will team up to lead a community-government relations workshop, which promises to teach participants how to "win" with the City Council, build coalitions and resolve conflicts.

Registration will be accepted at 8:30 a.m. April 30 at Salt Lake Community High School, 233 W. Second North. For more information, contact the Salt Lake community affairs office at 535-7915.
