A Salt Lake man has been ordered to stand trial on charges he shot and killed a Draper man last October.

Elden Ellis, 31, appeared last week for a preliminary hearing before 3rd Circuit Judge Paul Grant, who ruled there was enough evidence to try him on a second-degree felony charge of manslaughter.Grant scheduled Ellis to be arraigned Feb. 17 before 3rd District Judge Frank Noel.

Ellis is accused in the death of Garry Peppmuller, who was shot in the chest the night of Oct. 22.

Peppmuller's wife, Julie, had been living with Ellis in Salt Lake City. The two went to the Peppmuller home in Draper and were approached by Peppmuller, who was under court order to stay away.

Ellis told police that he shot in self-defense. Peppmuller was unarmed, police said.
