A University of Utah fraternity will host the National Collegiate Driving Championships April 30 and May 1 in the parking lot of the Veterans Administration Medical Center on Guardsman Way.

The contest is hosted by the U. chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and sponsored by Dodge. Participants are timed as they drive a new Daytona Shelby Z Turbo around a set course. The driver with the fastest time wins a trip to Daytona, Fla., to compete for the national title and a Dodge-sponsored starting position in the Daytona 500.Fraternity spokesman Steve Stamos said the competition is open to any U. student who comes to the site between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. either day.

There is no fee to participate, but Dodge donates a set amount of money per participant, which the fraternity will give to Project Turn's Autism Teaching Apartments and Home.
