Gov. Norm Bangerter appointed D. Mark Jones to be executive director of the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice on Friday.

If confirmed by the state Senate, Jones will replace Stephen Mecham, who was appointed to the Public Service Commission earlier this week.Jones, 30, has been an adviser to the governor on health, social services and regulatory matters. An attorney, he graduated from Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark law school.

The Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice is a 17-member group that identifies and recommends solutions to problems in the state's criminal and juvenile justice system.
