The Utah recruiter for Job Corps will hold a series of five conferences Feb. 6-7 to help kick off the program's 25th anniversary and state Job Corps Awareness Week.
The conferences, sponsored by Dynamic Sciences Inc., will be open to educators, social workers, juvenile judges and court personnel and the general public. A panel of students and staff from Utah's two Job Corps centers in Clearfield and South Weber will speak at the sessions, Barbara Timper, project manager, said.Job Corps, a vocational training program funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, was established in 1964 to provide vocational, academic and social skills for youth ages 16-22. Gov. Norm Bangerter has proclaimed Feb. 5-11 as Job Corps Awareness Week.
Conferences will be held in Ogden and Salt Lake City on Feb. 6. The Ogden conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Regional Center, 2540 Washington Blvd. The Salt Lake conference is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room N-1100 at the Salt Lake County Government Center, 2001 S. State.
On Feb. 7 two conferences will be held, in Provo and Price. A lunch meeting will be held in Provo at JB's Restaurant, 2230 N. University Parkway, from noon to 2 p.m. The Price session will be held in the Radisson Hotel, 838 Westwood Blvd., from 7 to 9 p.m.
The last conference will be held Feb. 8 in St. George in the Dixie College Student Center, 225 S. Seventh East, from noon to 2 p.m.
