Rep. Wayne Owens, D-Utah, has reintroduced a House bill that would require the Pentagon to identify substances used in research to develop defenses against biological warfare attack.

He said such a list of biological agents would "provide ready verification of our nation's avowed policy of conducting bio-weapons research solely for defensive purposes."The list Owens wants would identify each agent and its properties, and the safety level and location of the laboratory.

A complete list would have to be published in the Federal Register each year, under Owens' bill.
