A strong explosion ripped through a shrine in central Tokyo Friday, shattering windows and causing part of the ceiling to collapse, police said. No injuries were reported.

The pre-dawn blast shattered more than a dozen windows and burned a covered passageway at the Togo Shrine, said a police official who spoke on condiiton of anonymity.Parts of a fire extinguisher, electrical wires and welding materials, which could have been used in making a bomb, were found near the shrine's main building.
