Elliott and Candice Breading and their son Jermy were taken to a hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation. Eight-year-old Wayne Breading and two other brothers were unhurt and watched from a neighbor's kitchen window as firefighters doused the blaze."I yelled, `The chair is on fire,' " Wayne said.

Assistant Fire Chief John Williams said firefighters could hear family members inside the house yelling when his and other firefighting units arrived at the house at 2842 S. 2955 West.

All the family members had escaped from the back of the house by the time firefighters approached the burning building.

Nine-year-old Donnie said his mother was burned while trying to get his 2-year-old brother out.

The fire gutted the front part of the house. Williams estimated damage at $50,000. He said the cause of the blaze was not known.

The conditions of the victims and the hospital to which they were sent were not available at press time.
