Artist Jasper Johns, whose works command millions at auction, was inducted Monday into his native state's hall of fame.

Johns, an Allendale native considered a father of pop art, is the first artist among 39 people enshrined in the South Carolina Hall of Fame at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.Also inducted was Joel Roberts Poinsett, best known for bringing the Christmas plant that bears his name to the United States.

Johns, 58, is best known for his paintings of familiar objects such as flags and numbers.
