A Southern California man pleaded guilty Wednesday to a reduced charge of possession of 448 pounds of marijuana worth $1 million, 5th District Court officials said.

Judge Philip Eves scheduled a March 6 sentencing for David Villa Armenta, 31, San Diego, who remained free on $20,000 bond.Armenta, Juan Suarez, 25, Joliet, Ill., and Suarez's 22-year-old wife, Elizabeth, were arrested April 21, 1988, on I-15 after a Utah Highway Patrol trooper found the drugs in their van.

Charges against Elizabeth were dismissed in exchange for her agreement not to fight deportation to Mexico, said Iron County Attorney Scott Burns.
