A southern Utah man pleaded no contest Monday to speeding and driving with a suspended license in connection with a traffic accident in which his wife was killed.

Angus Anthony Snow, 33, entered the plea to avoid his trial scheduled for Monday, a 5th Circuit Court clerk said.Judge Robert Owens sentenced Snow to 30 days in jail, but then suspended the term in favor of one-year probation. He also fined Snow $345.

A no-contest plea is treated the same as an admission of guilt for criminal sentencing purposes.

The charges were filed following a two-vehicle collision on Aug. 17, in which Sharon Snow, 31, of Shivwits, was killed.

Also facing charges in the accident is Donald Arlo McArthur, 44, of St. George, a Washington County road department employee. He is scheduled for trial Feb. 24 on a failure-to-yield charge.

Utah Highway Patrol investigators said McArthur was operating a front-end loader on the side of U.S. 91, about one mile west of Ivins, when he pulled into the highway in front of the Snow's southbound car.
