A woman who gave up her baby girl under a surrogacy agreement and the couple who intended to adopt the infant but then were divorced are waging a three-way court battle over custody of the child.

The fight, further complicated by the fact that the sperm donor is not the man seeking custody, centers on blond-haired, brown-eyed Tessa, now 4 years old, biological daughter of Norma Lee Stotsky. In January 1985, the day-old girl was given to Richard Reams and Beverly Seymour, a married couple who paid Stotsky $10,000 and expenses under a surrogate mother agreement.

The marriage broke up a year later, before the couple started adoption proceedings.
