The Brian Head Town Council is looking for a new mayor in the wake of the mid-term resignation of Michael Golden.
Golden resigned this week, giving no reason, but expressing appreciation for the town's staff and wishing them well in the future.
"I believe he wants to leave the area," Town Manager Judie Morisette said Friday, adding the resignation follows "a whole change in local government."
In a special election earlier this month, Brian Head residents created a new post of town manager to oversee day-to-day operations in the mountain resort community east of Cedar City. Morisette was named to the job.
The council is scheduled to select a successor May 10 to fill out the remaining 20 months of Golden's second term in office.
Anyone interested can apply for the mayor's seat, but "most likely one of the council members will be appointed," Morisette said.
Councilman and interim Mayor Dutch Deutschlander is the only council member yet to apply for the post, she said. If Deutschlander, a 10-year veteran of the council, or another member is appointed mayor, the council will appoint a replacement for that vacancy.
