North Sevier High School's "Uniques" are making a last-ditch effort to raise funds to send the dancing drill team to an international dance competition in Hawaii March 18-28.

"For many urban high schoolers, such a trip may seem a not-so-unusual opportunity," said one of the team's advisers. "But for North Sevier, this is a first - a historical event never before undertaken in such a small community."The team to date has collected $9,000 of the $12,000 necessary to fund the trip. Through a small drill- team camp, bake sales, a "Unique" cookbook, Christmas home show and dances the hard-earned dollars came in.

But time is running out. The deadline to raise the full amount is Feb. 10.

Alumni and others willing to help make the dream a reality can contact Lynda Whitlock or Teresa Robinson, Uniques advisers at North Sevier High, at 529-3442 or 529-7894.
