Flames reaching 25 feet high and whipped by high winds roared across western Nebraska rangeland Tuesday, burning more than 8,000 acres of prairie, tons of winter feed, some cattle and farm buildings, authorities said.

"It'll be something over 10,000 (acres) when it's done," said Capt. Marc Shay of the Bridgeport Fire Department. No injuries were reported in the blaze, which broke out shortly after noon.

The cause was under investigation.
