Salt Lake police were searching for a juvenile in connection with an altercation that ended when the youth fired eight or nine shots at a vehicle stopped on a downtown street. The incident occurred when two adults and a juvenile driving a car very erratically on Third West near Fifth North stopped and had a "verbal alter- cation," with a man driving a truck, Officer Mike Beesley said. The juvenile stuck a handgun of unknown caliber out the car window and "popped off eight or nine shots" at the truck, leaving the man, his wife and son uninjured, he said.
"At first I thought it was a cap gun, but then I saw the bullets," said Mike Martinez, 31, West Valley City, driver of the truck. Martinez followed the gunman until he again brandished the gun.
