A husband's demand for an abortion for his comatose wife was rejected because nothing in her medical rec-ord indicates the pregnancy will harm her chances of survival, hospital officials said Friday.

Martin Klein, 34, of Upper Brook-ville, N.Y., filed a suit Thursday seeking to be named guardian of his wife, Nancy, 32, so that he can authorize an abortion.State Supreme Court Justice John Burke Thursday signed an order requiring hospital officials, Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon, and State Attorney General Robert Abrams to show cause at a Feb. 1 hearing as to why Klein should not be appointed temporary guardian of his wife.

Mrs. Klein, who has a 3-year-old daughter, suffered severe head injuries in a Dec. 12 collision near her Long Island home and has not regained consciousness since she was admitted to the hospital.
