The Daily Mirror, a British tabloid, has agreed to pay actor John Cleese what his lawyer calls "a substantial five-figure award" for an August 1987 gossip column accusing Cleese of manic behavior on the set of the current film hit, "A Fish Called Wanda." The article claimed Cleese would tweak cast members' ears and fly into irrational rages, comparing his behavior to that of Basil Fawlty, the television character he created for the series "Fawlty Towers." "The claims were a total fabrication," said the actor's lawyer, Roderick Dadak. He said Cleese will donate the money to Families at Risk.
