Eight Utah high school students and one University of Utah student have been selected to receive national awards on behalf of the U.S. Congress.
Congressman Wayne Owens will present Congressional Awards Jan. 28 in the state Capitol rotunda.Receiving the Silver Congressional Award will be Joseph Z. Smart, a student at the U.
Bronze Congressional Awards will be presented to Marnie Lynn Beacham, Grantsville High; Steven Ashley Brown, East High; Michael Chatwin, Highland High; Tracie LuRene Helsten, Olympus High; Joseph D. Leishman, Taylorsville; Melinda Sue Showell, Judge Memorial High; Michael R. Faddis, Lehi High; and Russell K. Manuela, American Fork High.
The award recognizes those between the age of 14 and 23 who achieve voluntary service and personal goals by serving others while improving their own knowledge, skills and physical fitness.
