More than 300 automobiles from 175 new car and truck dealers from throughout Utah will be shown at the 1989 Utah Auto Show, which opens Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Salt Palace.
Now in its third year, the Utah Auto Show - an international new car exhibition showcasing the latest in 1989 auto design - is sponsored by the Utah Automobile Dealers Association (UADA).Some 30 automobile manufacturers are represented in the show, which runs through Sunday, Jan. 29.
In conjunction with the 1989 Utah Auto Show, the UADA is honoring W.D. Rishel by inducting him into the Utah Automobile Dealers Association Hall of Fame. (See separate story on page S-10.) The UADA established the Hall of Fame in 1987 to honor men and women who have made significant contributions to the automotive industry in Utah.
The Utah Auto Show is becoming larger and more prestigious each year, reported Preston Kearsley, UADA president. "When we began this show three years ago, the factories were a little reluctant to give us their top displays," he said. "Now, many of our dealers' displays come directly from the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. This type of factory support demonstrates the progress we've made and the respect our show is garnering in the automotive industry," Kearsley noted.
In addition to examining the latest models in new cars, trucks and vans, Auto Show visitors will have an opportunity to win a 1989 Buick Century, courtesy of the Utah Better Buick Dealers. Visitors can register at the show or at any Utah Better Buick Dealer.
Manufacturers and distributors of automotive accessories including stereos, tires, and other products for the automobile are participating in the show. Demonstrations and free products will be available, along with on-the-spot financing through local financial institutions.
Manufacturers exhibiting at the show include Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge, Ford, GM Trucks, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jaguar, Lincoln/Mercury, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Porsche, Saab, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volvo, Volkswagon and Yugo.
Show hours are Thursday, Jan. 26 from 5 to 10 p.m.; Friday, Jan. 27 from noon to 10 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
