A Social Security representative will be at the Layton Hills Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 4 to process applications for Social Security numbers for children. All children 5 and over listed as dependents on 1988 federal income tax returns must have a Social Security number.

To apply, the parent must show a state-certified birth or blessing certificate and one form of recent identification that lists the child's name. Acceptable forms of identification include shot and medical records, prescriptions, school records or last year's tax records.The registration service is free and children under 18 do not need to be present.
