Dr. Alma H. Cottam, 76, a Salt Lake physician for 40 years, died Saturday, Jan. 21, of natural causes.

Dr. Cottam was born Aug. 19, 1912 in St. George to Heber and Asineth Jarvis Cottam. He graduated from Dixie High School, Dixie College, Brigham Young University and Rush Medical College at the University of Chicago. He married Naomi Melville in the Salt Lake Temple of the LDS Church Sept. 19, 1939.During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England, France and Germany, rising to the rank of major. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America as an adviser, a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, president of the Sugar House Lions Club and a Lions deputy district governor. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, boating and woodworking.

Services for Dr. Cottam will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Mountain View 2nd Ward Chapel, 1400 S. 19th East. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive.

Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel Friday an hour before services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 23 E. 26th St., New York, NY 10010 or the American Diabetes Association, 643 E. Fourth South, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
