ABC News anchor Peter Jennings will host the first installment of a new Public Broadcasting Service quarterly series on AIDS, the producers said recently.

The AIDS Quarterly series of one-hour news and documentary programs is scheduled to premiere Feb. 28 on PBS, said officials at WGBH, the Boston public TV station producing the series.The series on acquired immune deficiency syndrome is being produced by the producers of the NOVA and Frontline PBS series.

"AIDS is one of the most significant stories of the century," Jennings said. "It is much more than a medical emergency; it reveals difficult truths about life and death, science and money, politics and justice . . ."
