A 3-year-old Pleasant View boy was trapped and died inside a burning mobile home Monday afternoon, police said.
Brett Edward Anderson, son of Brent and Norlyn Anderson, 2491 N. U-89, Space 318, was playing in the rear bedroom of the mobile home when the fire broke out about 4:40 p.m., said Pleasant View Police Chief Rex Cragun."There were about four attempts to try and rescue the little guy, but they failed," he said. "The fire was just too intense."
Cragun said Mrs. Anderson was able to get her two other children safely outside, but smoke and flames prevented her from reaching Brett. Neighbors and firefighters also tried to save the boy but were unsuccessful.
"They were prevented from getting back by flame in the hallway," Cragun said.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but Cragun said the blaze originated in the rear bedroom where the child was playing. A cigarette lighter was found in the debris near the boy's body, he said.
