An elderly Holladay man apparently shot his wife and then himself Saturday morning, the sheriff's office reported.

The two, both of whom were in their 70s, were found in their home, 2318 E. Walker Lane, shortly before 1 p.m. by a daughter.Sheriff's Lt. Ben Forbes, at the request of relatives, withheld the victims' names until after their funeral.

Forbes said, however, that the elderly man apparently shot his wife in bed late Friday or early Saturday and later shot himself with a high-powered hunting rifle.

The daughter had last talked to her father about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a sheriff's office report.

Both were suffering from cancer. His case was diagnosed as terminal, according to the report.
