A 28-year-old Provo man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and fined $1,250 on charges that he sexually abused a child last year.
Fourth District Judge Ray M. Harding on Friday also ordered the defendant, Gary Joe McCamey, to undergo counseling. Harding originally gave McCamey a one-to-15-year prison sentence but suspended that sentence and placed him on probation for 18 months.McCamey was charged with two counts of child sexual abuse, second-degree felonies but as part of a plea agreement one count was dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea last month.
"I know what's happened is wrong. I feel I need treatment," McCamey said. "I don't feel like prison will do me any good."
Responded Harding: "I don't think anyone feels like prison will do them any good."
McCamey will begin his jail sentence Jan. 30 and will be given credit for 40 days already served.
