Aesthetic ear surgery to better position the ears if they are large in proportion to other features or protrude more than normal. Performed on an out-patient basis under local anesthesia, although children are placed under general anesthesia.
-Candidates: Surgery can be done at any age, but it is recommended that children be near total ear development (age 5 or 6). Common among men and women.
-The downside: Patient wears gauze dressing for several weeks to ensure ears heal in their new, more natural position.
-Possible complications: Minimal.
