A man who stole a $1,400 white cockatoo from a Long Island pet store returned the costly bird unharmed to its owner and turned himself in to police, police said Saturday.

Andrew Cohen, 23, surrendered to police Friday after giving back the prized white Soffin cockatoo to Birds of a Higher Feather, a pet store in Mineola, Nassau County police said.Cohen, of Glendale, was charged with grand larceny, as was his alleged accomplice - who was arrested at another pet store almost immediately after Birds of a Higher Feather was robbed last Monday.

Cohen told police he took the cockatoo from its cage and fled the pet store with the bird concealed under his jacket while his partner diverted the attention of an employee.
